In this 34 minute video Raimo van der Klein discusses various topics related to the role of mobile in bringing news with Roeland Stekelenburg (NOS), Patrick Loppé (Telegraaf), and Erik Rovers (NU.nl/Ilse Media).

The panel starts with what they learned from the earlier presentations. The audience has some interesting questions for the panel concerning advertising models, user generated content, and where they get their inspiration for innovations.

About the panel

  • Roeland Stekelenburg, head of the New Media department at NOS, kicked off the MoMo Special with new stats and backgrounds on the NOS mobile application. See his presentation here.
  • Patrick Loppé, Channel Manager DFT.nl & Mobile at De Telegraaf Media, gave insight in the mobile strategy of de Telegraaf. See his presentation here.
  • Erik Rovers, responsible for Business Development Mobile at Ilse Media, earlier presented the ideas behind the mobile version of NU.nl. In his presentation during this MoMo Special he gave a sneak preview of the NU.nl mobile application (currently in development) and he pre-launched the NU.nl quick launch button. In this 28 minute video Roeland Stekelenburg shares new insights from the NOS mobile application which was released this summer. Roeland, head of the New Media department at NOS, tells how the NOS came to the point where they decided to develop the current application and what considerations they had in the planning phase. Finally he shares new numbers of the current usage and the learnings from the evaluations.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Roeland Stekelenburg (LinkedIn) – NOS
Roeland Stekelenburg is Head of the New Media department at NOS. He searches for innovative ways to use media in new conceptual ways, forms, distribution methods, new markets, and new audiences, but not the technical innovation. The NOS mobile application, which was released this summer, is an example of such innovation.

Roeland had various functions in journalism before joining NOS. He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Communication Science from the University of Amsterdam.

Erik Rovers (LinkedIn) – Ilse Media
Erik Rovers is responsible for Business Development Mobile at Ilse Media. He has a portfolio of mobile websites including NU.nl, Startpagina.mobi, Kieskeurig and web-log.mobi.

Erik has a Master of Science Degree in Business Studies from the University of Groningen and has always worked in the telecommunications sector since 2000.

Patrick Loppé (LinkedIn) – De Telegraaf
Patrick Loppé is Channel Manager DFT.nl & Mobiel at De Telegraaf. This April De Telegraaf launched their renewed mobile website. During the first half year De Telegraaf experienced a significant increase in the volume of unique visitors per month and a doubling amount of pageviews. During his talk he will share some of the learnings van De Telegraaf.

Gunnar Garfors (LinkedIn) – NRK
Gunnar Garfors is the Director of Development in NRK’s Division of Developments. He has been overseeing the development of various mobile services, including mobile TV and MMS videos on TV, both of which Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation was first in Europe to launch.

Garfors has held a number of presentations around the world on NRK’s leading position on mobile services. He is originally a journalist, holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcasting from Falmouth College of Arts in the UK and a Master of Management from BI, Norwegian School of Management. The 30-year-old has been working in various media houses before joining NRK in 2000.
